Yes, that did in fact occur. My fiancé’s pocket held my mother’s underpants the night he spent the night at our place. Not everything that happened that tragic day was my mom’s fault. My dad left the family when I was just two years old. It seems he was sick of taking care of us and thought we were a burden. He then left us in search of a young woman he had found. But after that, mom found it difficult to trust men. After dad’s divorce, she never dated anyone again, and as I got older, she started “testing” all of my dates.
She did not know that she was wrecking her daughter’s life in the process, but I can see her wanting to shield me from the wrong men. My mother said that none of the boys I fell in love with were reliable. Her view that all men were like my father—cheaters and heartless—was reinforced by the fact that none of them had passed her test. When I learned the truth about my ex-boyfriends, I was devastated and even made the decision that I would never trust a guy in my life again. But my perspective shifted after meeting Kevin. I am not sure what it was about him that made me think he stood out from the rest, but I knew he was the one.
So one day, after giving it some thought, I asked him to supper and introduced him to my mother. “Hello mom, this is Kevin. I informed my mother, “We have been dating for a while and we are hoping to get married shortly. Kevin smiled sweetly to my mother. “Mrs. Miles, I am happy we are finally meeting. “Chloe never stops talking about you,” he said with joy. Mom gave him a dubious look. “Kevin, nice to meet you. She remarked, “I am happy Chloe has someone in her life who she loves so much. She murmured, “But as far as marriage is concerned, we will see about that later.”
I thought to myself, Oh no, do not tell me she is going to attempt those silly tests on Kevin too. “All right, mama. Kevin is. My mother interrupted me as I was speaking. “Come on, Chloe. Let us eat dinner. Later on, we can talk about other topics,” she informed me. To be honest, I do not think it was worth encouraging her not to have any doubts about Kevin. Sadly, my suspicion that she would not trust him proved to be correct. Later that evening, after supper, my mother gave the test again to Kevin by herself. I was listening in on their chat from behind the closed door. Mom said to Kevin, “Are you sure you like my daughter?” Or do you find me more interesting?
Please, Mrs. Miles, behave yourself! I am not that person. Furious, Kevin stormed out of the room. You can not imagine how thrilled I was to hear Kevin respond in that way. The first man to pass my mother’s test was him. Unfortunately, though, she did not buy it.
