The West Bengal government, led by Mamata Banerjee, extended an invitation to the protesting physicians to talk for the “fifth and final time” on Monday in an attempt to resolve the RG Kar standoff. This action was taken two days after the state chief minister encountered an impasse during the meeting’s live streaming. Manoj Pant, the chief secretary, has requested via email that the demonstrators visit Mamata Banerjee at her Kalighat home at 5:00 p.m. today.
“This is our fifth and last attempt to get in touch with you regarding a meeting between the delegates and the honorable CM. According to PTI, he wrote, “In keeping with our conversation from the previous day (Saturday), we are once more inviting you to the meeting with the CM at her Kalighat residence for discussions with an open mind.”
Pant expressed hope that “common reason will win out” in the wake of a decision made on Saturday to forbid live streaming or recording of the meeting while the matter is still pending before the Supreme Court. Rather, the meeting minutes will be captured and endorsed by both sides,” he declared. The doctors who were protesting sent an email stating that they would discuss it among themselves before determining whether or not to show up to the meeting. Since August 9, junior physicians at the government-run hospital have been on strike in protest over the rape and killing of a fellow employee.
